Kenya Airways To Drop Mombasa Fares To Only Sh3000

Kenya Airways through their sister company Jambo Jet, are set to launch a new service that will cost you only 3000 for a one way local ticket (Tax included). That means that a quick flight to Mombasa and back will cost you as little as 6, 000 shillings up from the current Ksh 16, 000 KQ. Jambo Jet CEO, Mr Hondius told Business Daily that the aim is to provide cheaper prices for those who deemed normal KQ fares too expensive.
“We would like to be a champion of the people by making it affordable for a big group of people to travel more. We think 30 to 40 per cent will be people who have not travelled before,” added Mr Hondius
He also added that while they cannot help stealing customers from KQ, their aim is only to increase the number of people that use air as their mode of transport.
“Our aim is not to steal a lot of passengers from KQ, of course we will cannibalise, and we cannot avoid that. The aim of the game is to grow the pie and add new passengers on board and we are sure that it will work,” said Mr Hondius.
The service will begin with flights from Nairobi to Kisumu, Eldoret and Mombasa before branching to Bujumbura, Kigali, Juba, Goma, Mwanza, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro and Addis Ababa in a year’s time. The low cost will however not cater for eatables in the plane. Passengers will have to pay for refreshment on board and part with Sh500 to check in a suitcase and up to Sh860 to get a preferred select seat.
This is a great deal especially for taking a nice trip to the coast of Kenya
